common rail injectors
In common rail systems, a high-pressure pump stores a reservoir of fuel at high pressure. All of the fuel injectors are supplied by a common fuel rail which is a pressure accumulator where the fuel is stored at high pressure. This simplifies the purpose of the high-pressure pump in that it only needs to maintain a commanded pressure at a target.

Turbodiesels can be designed to have a more acceptable spread of both power and torque over their speed range or, if being built for commercial use, can be designed to improve either torque or power at a given speed depending on the exact use. Naturally aspirated diesels, have a lower power output than a petrol engine of the same capacity.

An Injection Pump is the device that pumps diesel (as the fuel) into the cylinders of a diesel engine. Traditionally, the injection pump is driven indirectly from the crankshaft by gears, chains or a toothed belt (often the timing belt) that also drives the camshaft. It rotates at half crankshaft speed in a conventional four-stroke diesel engine.
